NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The mayor of New Jersey’s largest city has postponed a police reforms news conference in the wake of the slayings of two New York City police officers.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was scheduled Monday to discuss the city’s respond to a Justice Department probe of civil rights violations within the Newark Police Department.

In a statement, Baraka said the news conference will take place after the holidays.

Baraka also extended his condolences to the New York City Police Department and to the city’s mayor and police commissioner.

Two officers were ambushed and gunned down in their patrol car told on Saturday.
