ODESSA, Texas (AP) - A pilot from Colorado has been killed in the West Texas crash of a single-engine plane used for aerial patrols of oil and gas fields.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says 28-year-old Jeffery Michael McNamee of Littleton, Colorado, died in Monday’s crash near Odessa.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the Cessna 172 to crash into a field and burn.

Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane was registered to a company that does aerial patrols for energy companies. The FAA says the wreckage was discovered when dispatchers lost contact with the pilot and sent another aircraft to search for the plane.
