NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey probation officer has been arrested and charged with taking bribes from a client.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced Tuesday that 46-year-old Rhonda Battle of Roselle was charged with official misconduct and bribery. Bail was set at $20,000.

Investigators allege Battle took an undisclosed amount of cash from the client in exchange for making sure the client passed drug tests and didn’t violate the conditions of a court-ordered probationary term.

Battle was assigned to the drug court program at state Superior Court in New Brunswick. The program provides alternatives to incarceration such as counseling, rehabilitation and probationary terms.

It wasn’t immediately known if Battle had retained an attorney.
