LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas’ auditor-elect says she will not keep an office employee who also ran for the post this year.

Andrea Lea said Tuesday she would keep two-thirds of the auditor office’s 36 employees. Among those to be let go are Regina Stewart Hampton, who had asked to remain.

Lea told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/13YFmaa ) that anyone interested in staying could apply for a job. She said Hampton applied and was interviewed but was not asked to stay on.

Hampton took a leave of absence from her job to seek the post as a Democrat. Lea is a Republican.

Hampton worked at the auditor’s office about 12 years and directed the Great Arkansas Treasure Hunt, which reunites abandoned or forgotten property with its owners.

Lea takes office next month.
