SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah police will provide extra security at movie theaters where the movie “The Interview” will be showing on Christmas Day.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1xdNfCe ) that police in Salt Lake City and South Jordan will send officers to a pair of theaters where the movie will be played.

Sony and independent theaters agreed to release the film at more than 300 venues on Christmas. Hackers spoiled the widespread Christmas opening of the comedy depicting the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

South Jordan police spokesman Sam Winkle says his agency will have increased security presence at the Megaplex in that city.

Salt Lake City police Detective Cody Lougy said his agency will have officers at Brewvies Cinema Pub in Salt Lake City.
