GIRL DIES IN EARLY MORNING FIRE

Fire officials say a 6-year-old girl is dead and two of her siblings are in critical condition following a fire in their Jacksonville apartment. The fire broke out about 2 a.m. Friday in the second-floor apartment.

TEEN DIES AFTER BEING DRAGGED BY CAR

A 20-year-old man is charged with vehicular homicide following the dragging death of a teenager during an argument in Palmetto. The Bradenton Herald reports that 18-year-old Kyle O’Halloran was outside his home Thursday afternoon when a Lincoln Town Car drove up. Palmetto police say the teen approached the car and had some kind of altercation with the passengers. As the vehicle started to drive away, O’Halloran grabbed onto it. Witnesses told police he fell off the vehicle about a block away.

MAN KILLS SELF AFTER KILLING MAN, INJURING WOMAN

A man is dead and his wife is in critical condition following a Christmas morning shooting at their Ocala home. Authorities say the Venus, Texas, man suspected of shooting them fatally shot himself a few hours later as he fled from law enforcement in Florida’s Panhandle. Authorities say 23-year-old Preston Daniel Pollard drove 16 hours from Texas to the home of Richard and Mary Lou Hutson. Three children and an 18-year-old girl in the home were not injured. Authorities believe Pollard may have been an ex-boyfriend of the teen.

REPUBLICANS RAISE $500K FOR SCOTT INAUGURATION

Florida Republicans are collecting large donations to pay for the inauguration of Gov. Rick Scott. The Republican Party of Florida reported Friday that it has now raised nearly $513,000 to pay for events surrounding Scott’s swearing in on Jan. 6. Scott was re-elected to a second term in November. Scott’s inauguration this time around is much smaller than it was four years ago.

DEPUTY KILLS ARMED SHOOTING SUSPECT

Authorities say a central Florida deputy fatally shot an armed man suspected in an earlier shooting. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office reports that a violent crimes task force responded to a Cocoa apartment complex Friday with an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Quentin Smith. When law enforcement confronted Smith, officials say Smith initially ran. He then reportedly pulled a gun on one of the task force members, who then shot Smith.
