PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Investors hoping to develop a historic pierce of Portland’s waterfront are at loggerheads with residents about whether the project would obscure views of the water for established property owners.

Developer CPB2 LLC wants to redevelop the 10-acre Portland Co. complex on the city’s waterfront as a mixed use development that could include a hotel. The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1t5IlmY ) reports several property owners in the area have written to the city to say they fear being walled off from the water. The developer submitted additional plans to the city that it says show the project would preserve site lines and public access to the water along three streets.

The city’s director of planning and urban development says city officials are close to holding a public hearing on the project.
