PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence police are searching for two suspects who injured a city resident and stole some items during an early morning home invasion.

Police say two men broke into a home on Joslin Street and woke up the couple who live there at about 5 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say the couple tried to fight off the intruders and one of the suspects hit the male resident in the head with a gun. The man’s injuries aren’t life-threatening.

Police say the couple shouted at other relatives to call 911, but the suspects were able to steal some undisclosed items and flee before officers arrived.

Residents of the home were only able to describe the suspects as two black men who were wearing dark clothing.
