PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Two Rhode Island groups say they’ll be protesting federal government and corporation surveillance programs at a rally outside the federal courthouse in Providence.

The RI Coalition to Defend Human and Civil Rights and RI MoveOn.org say their protest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday and is one of many demonstrations against surveillance programs nationwide organized by dozens of organizations. The day of rallies is called “The Day We Fight Back.”

The activists say they’ll call on Congress to pass legislation to stop mass spying programs by both the National Security Agency and corporations.

The groups say they’re pushing back against government and businesses that observe, collect and analyze people’s actions on the Internet. They say such spying is not compatible with democratic governance.
