Pakistani porn theater bombing leaves dozens dead, injured

- The Washington Times - Wednesday, February 12, 2014

At least 10 were killed and 16 injured after three grenades were thrown inside a theater in Pakistan that has a reputation for showing pornographic movies, authorities said.

Police reported the incident occurred in the Shama cinema in Peshawar, The Telegraph reported. This is the second cinema attack in a week. Just a few days ago, an attacker killed four people who were inside the Picture House cinema, located in the same vicinity, The Telegraph said.

Peshawar is located near the border with Afghanistan in an area known for tribal unrest. It's also a ground zero for Islamist insurgency in Pakistan, an area with a reputation for showy graphic movies in bawdy theaters packed with marijuana-smoking audiences, The Telegraph said.

Still, nobody's yet claimed responsibility for this latest attack, said Peshawar police chief Ijaz Khan, to the media outlet.

"Terrorists threw three Chinese-made hand grenades into the cinema hall ... when the show was in progress," he said in The Telegraph report.
