SUMNER, Maine (AP) - The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office says two bodies burned beyond recognition in the rubble of a house fire are likely an adult brother and sister who were missing.
The blaze in the Sumner home on Barrows Road was reported by neighbors at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The bodies were taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and identification, but investigators say they are likely the brother and sister who lived in the house for decades.
Presumed dead are 52-year-old Robert Keach and 60-year-old Della Keach.
Investigators said determining the cause of the fire will be difficult because of the extensive damage to the home, which was primarily heated by a wood stove.
There’s no indication there were working smoke detectors.
