Senate to hold hearing on minimum wage bill

- Associated Press - Monday, February 17, 2014

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Maryland Senate is scheduled to hold a hearing on a proposed minimum wage increase.

The Senate Finance Committee hearing is set for Monday, after a winter storm delayed the hearing last week.

The measure proposes raising the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 by 2016.

Gov. Martin O'Malley is supporting the bill.

Supporters say it will help the economy by providing people with more money to spend. Opponents contend a minimum wage hike has negative ramifications for Maryland businesses, particularly ones that hire young people who are still in school.
