The District's Department of Public Works revised their estimates for the total number of vehicles ticketed during last week's snow emergency, dramatically increasing the number of cars ticketed and issued a $250 fine.

The total number of vehicles ticketed for parking on snow emergency routes increased by nearly half, to 959 tickets issued during the 24-hour snow emergency declared last week. Of those vehicles ticketed, 234 vehicles were towed and owners charged an additional $100 tow fee.

The revisions also increase the amount of fines doled out to motorists, with more than $263,000 in fines levied for those ticketed and towed.

Towed vehicles also had to pay a $20 impound fee and $20 per day for storage if they left their car for more than 48 hours.

Department spokeswoman Linda Grant revised the totals from information that was initially provided Tuesday, saying that those figures did not account for the full 24-hour period that the snow emergency was in effect. The numbers provided by the department Wednesday do account for the full 24 hours the snow emergency was in effect, Ms. Grant said.

They do not, however, include any cars ticketed by other agencies, including the Metropolitan Police Department or the District's Department of Transportation, meaning that ticket totals could increase further, Ms. Grant said.

Mayor Vincent C. Gray declared the snow emergency, the first since 2010, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The declaration means vehicles parked along any of the District's dedicated snow emergency routes is subject to ticketing and towing.
