LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Lansing Board of Water & Light says it couldn’t anticipate the damage caused by a December ice storm that left some customers without power for more than a week.

The Lansing State Journal reports (http://on.lsj.com/1bKZC1I ) the municipal utility released its internal review Tuesday of the response to the Dec. 21-22 ice storm.

The utility says it had the optimal number of line crews “on site at the right time” to respond to outages despite complaints from customers. The review says if more crews were on hand they would have been idle or at safety risk until damages were assessed.

The power company has faced widespread criticism of how it handled outages that affected about 40,000 of its customers after the ice storm.
