ASHFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut State Police have announced that a trooper has been charged with drunken driving after crashing his cruiser on Route 44 in Ashford last week.

State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance told The Bulletin of Norwich (http://bit.ly/1liywSz ) that 43-year-old David Lavoie was off-duty when he crashed his cruiser early Wednesday morning. Lavoie works out of the Troop C barracks on Tolland and has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation.

Lavoie suffered a minor injury and the cruiser was heavily damaged in the one-car accident. He is free on $500 bail and is to appear in Danielson Superior Court on March 5.

It’s not clear if Lavoie has a lawyer. A message seeking comment was left at a phone listing for a David Lavoie on Tuesday.
