Egypt’s interim president names new prime minister

- The Washington Times - Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Egypt's interim president has appointed a prime minister to replace Hazem el-Beblawi, who resigned on Monday.

Adly Mansour named Ibrahim Mehlib as prime minister after a brief meeting on Tuesday.

Mr. Mehlib led Arab Contractors, Egypt's biggest construction company, for more than a decade. He was an appointed member of the Shura Council (Parliament Upper House) in 2010 under ousted president Hosni Mubarak. He was also member of the policies committee of the now dissolved National Democratic Party, state-run newspaper Al-Ahram reported.

Mr. Mehlib said Tuesday that "holy warriors" will make up his cabinet, which he will form in the next three days, The Associated Press reported.

The appointment comes a day after outgoing premier Hazem Beblawy announced the early resignation of the entire interim cabinet on Monday.
