REMSEN, N.Y. (AP) - Winter Olympics bronze medal winner Erin Hamlin will receive a hero’s welcome when she returns to her central New York hometown this week.

Local media outlets report that Hamlin is scheduled to arrive at the Syracuse airport late Thursday afternoon, followed by a police escort that will take her through Verona, Rome and other Oneida County communities before arriving in her hometown of Remsen.

A parade is scheduled to begin about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 31 and Main Street in Verona and end at Remsen Junior-Senior High School.

Two weeks ago in Sochi, Russia, the 27-year-old Hamlin became the first American to ever win an Olympic singles luge medal, earning her a $10,000 bonus from the U.S. Olympic Committee for her bronze.
