Wages were garnished during his last big-league season to help pay off that debt. There was also a 2011 federal investigation into money laundering for a Puerto Rican drug kingpin, which has not resulted in any charges against Hernandez.
Hernandez was released by Atlanta on June 18, 2012, but quickly signed with Milwaukee and finished his career there. Now, after a year away from the game, he’s back in the place that he considers home.
“It’s always good to be here,” Hernandez said. “This is my No. 1 organization. I love to be here. I love the owner, the general manager, the coaching staff. I try to help whatever they need me to help and we’ll go from there.”
