ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) - Andy Murray reached the quarterfinals of the Mexican Open with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Portugal’s Joao Sousa.

The seventh-ranked Murray set up a clash with France’s Gilles Simon in the last eight.

Top seed David Ferrer advanced to his fifth-straight Mexican Open quarterfinal. Ferrer, trying to win his fourth title on Mexican soil, will next play South Africa’s Kevin Anderson, who eliminated American Sam Querrey,7-6 (2), 6-4. Ukraine’s Alexandr Dolgopolov and Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic also advanced.

On the women’s side of the combined ATP-WTA tournament, top-seeded Dominika Cibulkova, New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic, Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard, Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi, China’s Shuai Zhang, American Christina McHale, Croatia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, and France’s Caroline Garcia all moved on to the quarters.
