CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - Former Major League Baseball executive Rick White has been hired as president of the independent Atlantic League.

The 61-year-old was president of Major League Baseball Properties from 1983-94, helping create the All-Star game FanFest and the authentic collection of game apparel sold to consumers.

Since leaving MLB, he has been general manager of Nike’s Cole Haan, Nike-Bauer Hockey and Nike Team Sports brands (1997-99) and served as president of Reed Exhibitions (1999-01), Phoenix Footwear (2001-03) and Imperial Headwear (2006-10). Since 2011, he had been principal of the licensing company Strategic Marketing Affiliates.

His hiring was announced Tuesday.
