BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Beckley Correctional Center.

The center tells media outlets that 27-year-old Frank Smith escaped around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Smith was serving a one- to three-year sentence out of Cabell County for attempting to commit a felony.

He is described as a white man with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. He has several tattoos, including praying hands on the left side of his neck and a “WV” on his throat.
