KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - A fundraising campaign has been launched on the behalf of the widow and two young children of the man who was fatally shot inside the New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s upstate offices earlier this week.

The Daily Freeman of Kingston reports (http://bit.ly/1lAb448 ) that the fund was established Tuesday to help Aron Thomas’ wife and their children, a 6-week-old and a 2-year-old. The fund has raised more than $21,000 by Wednesday morning on the online fundraising website gofundme.com.

Police say the 33-year-old Thomas was shot Monday morning in the DEP’s Kingston offices by co-worker David Reese of Gilboa. Officials say the 53-year-old Reese used a handgun to kill Thomas, who lived in Olivebridge. Police haven’t released a motive.

Reese has pleaded not guilty. He’s being held in the Ulster County Jail.
