TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (AP) - A Kearns man accused of driving drunk has been charged with automobile homicide in a crash that killed a 3-year-old boy.

Manuel de Jesus Guinea was also charged Tuesday with nine counts of driving under the influence. That’s one charge for each person injured in the Jan. 25 crash in Taylorsville.

Police say Guinea crashed his truck into the back of a Subaru that was carrying Zane Thurber of Murray. Zane died later that night.

The impact caused a chain-reaction accident that involved three other vehicles.

Charging documents say Zane’s 6-year-old brother lost a tooth in the crash, while the boy’s father suffered a concussion and lost consciousness.

The documents say Guinea had a hard time maintaining his balance and smelled strongly of alcohol after the crash.
