LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Many central Arkansas schools are closing early so students and staff can get home before the latest bout of winter weather strikes.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory that’s in effect from 3 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday. Snowfall from a half-inch to up to 3 inches is forecast.

Public schools in the Little Rock area are dismissing early and many after-school sports and activities have been canceled.

The heaviest snow is expected from Mount Ida to Conway to Newport before the system moves out overnight.

Temperatures in central Arkansas are forecast to rise well above freezing on Saturday, which should dispatch a lot of the ice and snow that accumulated this week. However, more wintery precipitation is forecast for early next week.
