GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man wanted on a felony warrant who was fatally shot by an undercover Glendale police detective.

Police say 43-year-old Stephen Wayne Ross was declared dead at a Glendale hospital after Thursday morning’s shooting.

They say a fugitive task force was trying to arrest Ross on felony warrants and related fraud and forgery cases.

Police say Ross also had outstanding felony warrants for his arrest for dangerous drugs and aggravated identity theft.

Officers closed in on Ross in the parking lot of a Glendale shopping center before he reportedly drove his car aggressively at officers.

Police say Ross rammed several unmarked police vehicles before he was shot.

The shooter is an 18-year veteran and is on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
