TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - The University of Alabama’s engineering school will begin accepting students in two new degree programs this year.

Trustees voted Friday to offer new degrees in architectural engineering and environmental engineering.

The programs will begin accepting students for August 2014.

Architectural engineering involves planning, designing, constructing and maintaining buildings.

Environmental engineers work with recycling, waste disposal, public health, pollution control and natural resource management.

No new faculty members are being added. Each program will be supported by current teachers from the engineering college, which already offers minors in both areas.
