BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Brave souls are taking a dip in icy Lake Champlain to raise money for the Special Olympics Vermont.

The Penguin Plunge takes place Saturday at 11 a.m. at Burlington Waterfront Park.

Plungers are expected to check in between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Those participating pay a $25 registration fee and must have raised a minimum $150 for the cause.

At 9 a.m. the temperature was a chilly 13 degrees in Burlington.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
