"Just 25 percent self-ID as Republican; independents soar to record 42 percent" (Web, Jan. 8) shows just how confused and messed up the GOP brand really is. Most of the friends with whom I speak about this think we need to do away with the GOP label altogether and call ourselves "Conservatives" instead.
Most Republicans, as well as many of the self-professed "independents," would likely be attracted to a Conservative Party. Then we could hang the label "Liberal Progressives" on the Democratic Party and present two clear distinctions to the American voting public. Our friends in England have made this distinction for many years.
