Suicidal man dies after jumping into Wis. quarry

PEWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) - The Waukesha County sheriff’s office confirms that a man who jumped into a rock quarry has died in the hospital.

Sheriff’s Lt. Thom Moerman says the 24-year-old man died at Froedtert (FRAY’-dert) Hospital.

The sheriff’s office says the incident happened late Saturday night at the Waukesha Lime and Stone Co. in Pewaukee.

Family members told authorities the man was at the quarry and suicidal. When deputies arrived, they found he had rammed his car through the fence and was standing at the edge of the quarry. Deputies tried negotiating with him but he jumped off the edge into the quarry.

Due to icy conditions, deputies had trouble reaching the man.

One deputy slipped and injured his ankle, but WTJM-TV (http://bit.ly/1eAw3fr ) reports he has left the hospital in good condition.
