BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 40-year-old Baker woman about to stand trial in the 2012 murder of her girlfriend agreed to a plea deal and was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1a3UMMe ) Kolande Williams had been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 31-year-old Kimberly Stewart on Jan. 14, 2012, but pleaded to manslaughter on Monday.

A second-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
