MANISTEE, Mich. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard is warning anglers and other recreational users to be cautious this weekend as icebreaking takes place on a northwestern Michigan lake.

A tugboat will be breaking ice on Lake Manistee, starting Saturday and continuing for two weeks.

It will clear a path for the freighter ships Calumet and Manitowoc so they can deliver coal. They’ll make four trips, with stops at the Tondu Energy Station and the Morton Terminal.

The Coast Guard says ice anglers should remove shanties and equipment from those sections of Lake Manistee. Recreational users should avoid the areas and steer clear of shipping channels.
