DUBLIN, Calif. — A Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer was fatally shot in the line of duty Tuesday.
The officer was shot just after 1 p.m. while doing a probation search at a home in the East Bay city of Dublin, agency officials said. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The officer's identity and other details are not being released at this time, BART Police Chief Kenton Rainey and BART General Manager Grace Crunican said in a joint statement.
"The entire BART organization is deeply saddened by this tragic event, and we ask the public to keep the officer's family in its thoughts and prayers," they said.
The Dublin Police Department has taken over the investigation.
