EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - An Oklahoma-based author whose story about young adults was adapted into a critically acclaimed movie is set to take part in two upcoming events in the Oklahoma City metro area.

Tim Tharp is the author of the 2008 novel “The Spectacular Now,” a coming-of-age story about two high school students. The book was adapted into a move by the same name last year.

Tharp, a native of Henryetta and professor at Rose State College, will introduce a screening of the film Jan. 27 as part of UCO’s Literature in Performance.

He will also be a featured speaker at the Literature in Performance’s “Screenwriting Saturday” class Feb. 1 at The Paramount in Oklahoma City. Both events are free and open to the public.
