An active member of the U.S. Air Force tackled a would-be jewelry thief in New Jersey on Sunday night, foiling his attempt to make off with roughly $26,000 worth of watches from a TJ Maxx department store.
The suspect had entered the store wearing dark clothes and a ski mask. He chucked a rock through the glass case of a jewelry counter and grabbed about $25,797.00 worth of watches and shoved them in a bag, the South Jersey Times reported.
As the suspect headed for the door, an Air Force member wearing civilian clothes tackled him to the floor, police said.
The suspect lost his mask, his jacket and the bag of watches in the struggle, but he was able to escape and flee on foot.
Police are still looking for the suspect, described as a light-skinned black male in his late 20s with light facial hair. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Evesham Police Department at 856-983-1116.
