BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State government offices will be closed Friday in 22 parishes where extreme cold and a mix of rain, sleet, snow and ice accumulation is possible as a blast of arctic air sweeps through Louisiana.

Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols said Thursday that state offices will close in: Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis, Evangeline, Rapides, Vernon, Pointe Coupee, West Feliciana, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, St. Martin, St. Landry, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Mary, Vermilion, and Grant parishes.

Classes also are cancelled at McNeese State University and all of Northwestern State University's campuses. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will shut down its campus at midnight Friday but resume operations at 12:30 p.m.

Nichols says state government employees can call 1-800-360-9660 or 225-342-0498 for updates on office closures.
