TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Republican activists are hoping to pass a resolution at an Arizona GOP party meeting that would censure U.S. Sen. John McCain for what they deem a “liberal” voting record.

The anti-McCain group is seeking a reprimand of McCain from state party leaders at the gathering Saturday in Tempe.

State Republican Party spokesman Tim Sifert says the resolution needs signatures from at least 20 percent of state committee members to reach the floor for debate.

According to the resolution, the 2008 Republican presidential candidate has campaigned as a conservative but lent his support to issues such as immigration reform and funding Obama Care.

McCain has been dogged by conservatives objecting to his views since his days running for Congress in 1982.

Several Republican county committees recently censured McCain.
