Ohio school gets Air Force grant for trauma study

CINCINNATI (AP) - The U.S Air Force has awarded an Ohio school more than $1 million to study how air medical evacuation affects patients, medical professionals and medical equipment.

The University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center says the new funding supports research projects led by members of UC’s Institute for Military Medicine.

The institute is a collaboration of basic science and clinical researchers, trauma surgeons and Air Force members based at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. It focuses on studying the complex traumatic injuries of warfare.

The Air Force approved a $24 million cooperative agreement in 2010 to fund UC research on the unique environment of air medical evacuation. The new funding will allow researchers to continue ongoing work and launch new projects.
