PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The Beaverton School District says an anonymous family is donating $4.4 million to improve Sunset High School’s baseball, softball and other athletic practice fields.

Sunset High athletic director Pete Lukich told The Oregonian (http://is.gd/fQcJV5 ) that the family came forward to express an interest in helping and gave its OK about two weeks ago after getting solid price estimates

The work includes install synthetic turf to create athletic fields that can be used all year. In addition to new turf, the project will re-position the existing varsity softball field and add lighting.

Lukich says the family lives in the greater metro area and has past connections to Sunset High.

Construction is expected to start in June.
