Inmate dies at state prison; OSP investigating

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police are investigating the death of a 39-year-old inmate at the Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla.

State Department of Corrections spokeswoman Sherry Iles says Shane Morris was found unconscious in his cell Monday night and he died less than an hour later at a local hospital.

She says it is standard for police to investigate unexpected prison deaths, and more details will be released when the investigation is over.

Morris entered state prison in 2005 after being convicted of sex abuse and sodomy in Umatilla County. His earliest release date was in five years.

Two Rivers is a medium and minimum security prison. It opened in 2000 and houses about 1,800 male prisoners.
