EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A University of Oregon chemistry professor has been chosen to serve as president-elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science - the world’s largest general scientific society.

The university says Geraldine Richmond will start her three-year term Feb. 19.

Richmond is known for her study of complex surface chemistry. She has served on national science boards as well as the Oregon State Board of Higher Education.
