ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York's Battery Park City Authority has named the state ethics chairman's spouse as president of the public benefit corporation that manages 92 acres in lower Manhattan.
Shari Hyman, the New York City Business Integrity Commission chair the past three years, is a former deputy New York City mayor and ex-prosecutor.
She starts the $225,000-a-year job Feb. 10.
Hyman's husband, attorney Daniel Horwitz, chairs the Joint Commission on Public Ethics that investigates potential violations of state ethics laws by officials in the executive and legislative branches, including public authorities.
The commission code says members should recuse themselves from votes concerning entities or individuals where their impartiality might reasonably be questioned.
Authority Chairman Dennis Mehiel says he chose Hyman as the most qualified and experienced applicant and there's no political dimension.
