Taiwan baby panda makes first public debut

- The Washington Times - Monday, January 6, 2014

Crowds lined up at the Taipei Zoo in Taipei, Taiwan, on Monday to see the first public appearance of a giant 6-month-old panda.

Yuan Zai's debut has been long-anticipated, and the baby bear didn't disappoint, especially for the children, The Associated Press reported.

She climbed, stretched and cavorted, mostly near her protective mother.

Zoo officials said in AP that they can take in 19,000 visitors each day to see the panda. She was born to Yuan Yuan and Tuan Tuan — the latter is the father — and came to Taiwan from China in 2008.
