TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A popular tourism destination in northern Michigan now has its own song.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/1w5K3FA ) the winner of the Traverse City Tourism Song Search is “Take Me There” by The Hacky Turtles.

The funk/reggae fusion band will perform the song Saturday during the National Cherry Festival from atop the Traverse City Tourism parade float. The song also is expected to be used in promotional pieces, from travel videos to radio and TV commercials.

Tourism officials sought an original song that best captures the flavor of the region. Traverse City Tourism says the song is a “wistful celebration” of the band’s hometown. It includes lyrics such as: “Great food, better people, everyone’s a friend; All are welcome where the compass ends.”
