A 25-year-old homeless man was arrested Tuesday in front of ABC’s “Good Morning America” studios after he reportedly pulled out a knife and told police he was there to “kill Michael Strahan,” the show’s part-time co-host.

“The suspect went to the entrance of ABC studios and demanded that security let him into the studio. He was denied entrance, at which time he showed a knife. He [then] attempted to stab a security guard,” a police source said, Fox News reported.

Andre Johnson was charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. He later told police during a debriefing that “he was there to kill Michael Strahan,” a source said, clarifying, “when he displayed the knife he did not say that,” Fox News reported.

Mr. Strahan, who also co-hosts “Live! with Kelly and Michael,” was not in any danger and he was not even aware of the incident until later in the afternoon, the New York Post reported.

“It was a scary situation but thanks to the fast actions of NYPD the situation was quickly under control,” an ABC News spokesperson said.

Mr. Strahan played defensive end for the New York Giants for 15 years and was voted into the NFL Hall of Fame this year. He joined the cast of “GMA” in April.
