PITTSBURGH (AP) - Authorities in Pittsburgh are investigating the death of a city resident who jumped into the Monongahela River during a boat party.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office says 23-year-old Sean Gittins drowned Sunday morning.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1nX1lV3 ) Gittins had been with a group of people on a boat docked along the river.

A spokesman for the medical examiner says Gittins decided to take an early morning swim around 4 a.m. but did not immediately resurface.

His friends called for help, and authorities later found Gittins in the water. He was pronounced dead at a hospital around 6 a.m.
