GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - More than 200 North Dakota National Guard soldiers are slated to be honored after returning yearlong homeland security mission.

The Guard plans a formal public celebration called a Freedom Salute on Sunday in Grand Forks for the 1st Battalion of the 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment.

The soldiers served in the Washington, D.C., area, beginning last July, helping protect the air space around the nation’s capital. They soldiers returned to North Dakota in May.
