DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - Tom’s Tribute defeated Summer Front by 1¼ lengths to win the $300,000 Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar on Sunday.

Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Tom’s Tribute ran 1 1/8 miles on the turf in 1:46.01 and paid $6.60, $3.20 and $2.80. The 4-year-old colt is trained by Jim Cassidy.

Summer Front returned $2.40 and $2.20 as the even-money favorite, while Spring Up was another length back in third and paid $3.80 to show.

The victory, worth $180,000, increased Tom’s Tribute’s career earnings to $422,880, with five wins in 12 starts.
