New York (AP) - New York City officials and immigrant advocates say the city is ready to handle the recent influx of undocumented minors from Central America.

Several groups, including the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Catholic Charities, Terra Firma and the Mayor’s office, held a press conference at the New York Immigration Coalition Wednesday to address the issue.

The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs commissioner says officials are focusing on implementing existing resources to connect with the vulnerable children.

Organizers estimate that 3,300 undocumented minors have arrived in New York City since January. They say that as many as 7,000 more will be making their way to New York within the next year.
