GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - Former University of Great Falls basketball player Anthony Owens has been named the team’s head coach.

UGF President Eugene McAllister introduced Owens on Wednesday.

Owens has spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach at Portland State of the Big Sky Conference.

The native of Searcey, Arkansas, played for two years at Arkansas-Fort Smith Junior College before playing two seasons at UGF. He graduated from the Great Falls school in 2006 with a degree in psychology.

Owens coached two seasons at Eastern Arizona College and one at the College of Eastern Utah before joining the Portland State staff.

At UGF, he takes over for Steve Silsby, who was head coach for eight seasons and an assistant when Owens played.

Owens says he plans to bring in some talented players who will represent the school well and work hard on the court and in class.
