MACON, Ga. (AP) - Georgia health officials say they’ll test more than 130 children at a Macon daycare after a child tested positive for tuberculosis.

North central health district spokeswoman Jennifer Jones says children at Neighborhood Academy will be tested Monday and officials will return to the facility in 12 weeks to do precautionary follow up evaluations.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tuberculosis is an airborne bacterial infection that typically attacks the lungs but can also target other organs.

Jones says health officials and the daycare are sending letters to parents informing them of testing procedures and recommendations on whether children should undergo skin tests or see doctors.

Jones says the district will also host an information session Friday afternoon and plans to post additional information online.
